The incident occurred during the last over of Multan’s innings when batter Reeza Hendricks skied a ball from Mohammad Amir towards deep mid-wicket, where Mohammad Wasim Jr was stationed. He caught the ball cleanly to end Hendricks’ knock of 72, which had four sixes.
Ecstatic at the catch, Wasim threw the ball in the air but it ended up hitting wicketkeeper Sarfaraz, who only had a cap on. The former Pakistan skipper immediately put his hands around his head in pain and went down to the ground as physios attended to him.
The play was stopped for a while as Sarfaraz underwent a concussion test. He eventually walked off and was ruled out of the game. Sajjad Ali, his concussion substitute, batted and scored two in Quetta’s innings.
Sarfaraz was taken to the hospital for CT scans following the incident.
Quetta were unable to chase down Multan’s total of 180 to lose their first game of the season.
