The Pakistan Super League 2025 player draft will take place in Lahore on January 13. It will be available to watch on television and live streaming.
A total of 81 spots will be up for grabs as some of the biggest names in the world of cricket including the likes of Kane Williamson, David Warner, Tim Southee and Shakib Al Hasan will be available for selection in the PSL 2025 draft. The draft, originally scheduled for January 12 in Gwadar, has been delayed by a day and moved to Lahore for logistical reasons.
Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been registered in the Platinum Category along with his long-time teammate Tim Southee. While Williamson is the second-highest run-scorer for the Blackcaps in T20Is, Southee is the leading wicket-taker in men’s T20Is with 164 scalps in 126 matches. Besides Williamson and Southee, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Finn Allen, Jimmy Neesham, Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell will also feature in the draft and are sure to pique the interest of the six PSL franchises.
13 Australian cricketers are registered in the Platinum Category - the most for a single country. Besides veteran batter David Warner, T20 World Cup 2021 winners Ashton Agar and Daniel Sams will also feature in the draft. Usman Khawaja featured for Islamabad United in PSL 2021 and will return for the draft. Chris Lynn, Matt Short, Mark Steketee, Moises Henriques, Riley Meredith, Cooper Connolly, Will Sutherland and Sean Abbott are the players from Down Under who are in the Platinum Category.
South Africa will be represented by Imran Tahir, Rassie van der Dussen, Reeza Hendricks and Tabraiz Shamsi while the veteran Bangladesh players Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan are also a part of the Platinum category.
Lahore Qalandars will get the first pick in the opening round of the platinum category, followed by Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans and defending champions Islamabad United will have the final pick.
As far as retentions are concerned, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars have retained the services of eight players each while Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings have all retained seven cricketers each.
Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf are some of the biggest names to have been retained by their respective franchises.
