In a PSL 2024 match at Lahore, Multan Sultans posted 214-4 after Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bat. Wicketkeeper Usman Khan slammed a 55-ball 96 from No.3, while Iftikhar Ahmed’s 18-ball unbeaten 40 provided a late surge. For the Lahore Qalandars, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi returned 2-39.
The hosts began well before losing their openers in the sixth and seventh overs, but were still not out of it at 127-5 when Usama Mir began the 15th over. The target of 88 in 36 balls, while steep, was not impossible.
Rassie van der Dussen swept the first ball of Mir’s over behind square-leg for four. He tried to slog the next ball as well, but Rizwan ran in to take an excellent catch at deep mid-wicket.
After Carlos Brathwaite pushed the next ball for a single, George Linde tried to cut a slightly wide ball and was caught behind. Jahandad Khan tried to slog the next ball over wide long-on and missed the line, and his leg-stump was uprooted.
Salman Fayyaz avoided the hat-trick, but Mir dismissed Fayyaz and Zaman Khan to round off the innings for 154 in 17 overs to finish with 6-40 (he had earlier dismissed Shaheen stumped) from his four overs.
These are now the second-best figures in PSL history, after Faheem Ashraf’s 6-19 for Islamabad United against Lahore Qalandars in the 2019 edition. On Pakistan soil, only two others have better figures than Mir. Mohammad Imran had 6-16 for Peshawar Region against Rawalpindi Region in 2023, while Irfanuddin returned 6-25 for Karachi Dolphins against Sialkot Stallions. All three were at Karachi.
