The Pakistan Super League will see ICC chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle make his debut in the tournament — here’s the entire list of officials, match referees and umpires for PSL 2022.
The marquee event will begin in Karachi on January 27, with the final scheduled for February 27 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with Karachi Kings will kickstarting the event with a game against Multan Sultans. The first half of the event will have all its matches at the National Stadium in Karachi before the action shifts to Lahore.
The tournament will see some well-known umpires and referees officiating, including ICC chief match referee Madugalle. The Sri Lankan has officiated in 125 T20 International matches, and last visited Pakistan when he oversaw proceedings during the T20 series between Pakistan and Bangladesh in January 2020. The other members in the panel of referees are Roshan Mahanama of Sri Lanka, Javed Malik, Ali Naqvi and Iftikhar Ahmed, all from Pakistan. Anmis Sheikh, one of the most experienced referees, could not find a spot.
Apart from the referees, the umpires chosen for PSL 2022 have considerable experience as well. There are three umpires from the ICC Elie Panel of Umpires, including Aleem Dar, Michael Gough and Richard Illingworth. In all, there are 12 umpires for the upcoming season, with the remaining nine being members of PCB’s elite panel of umpires. They are Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, Faisal Khan Afridi, Imtiaz Iqbal, Imran Jawed, Nasir Hussain, Rashid Riaz, Shozab Raza and Waleed Yaqub.
