Watch: Peshawar Zalmi’s PSL clash with Quetta Gladiators ended in stunning style on Friday night, with five wides proving pivotal.
In a run chase of 199, Zalmi looked down and out, with 27 runs required from their last 12 balls and Dale Steyn bowling the penultimate over. But back-to-back sixes from Wahab Riaz helped narrow the equation to just six required from six off the final over.
Quetta Gladiators’ young tearaway Mohammad Hasnain was tasked with defending the total and began brilliantly: Wahab was bowled by a yorker from the first ball of the final over, while Saqib Mahmood was run out from the next delivery.
But Hasnain’s next ball was one to forget. With Sherfane Rutherford on strike, the ball flew high and wide, travelling to the boundary to level the scores. Rutherford celebrated and eventually secured victory from the next delivery with a boundary.
