Iftikhar, who ended with a 36-ball 71, was in the centre of a stellar chase of 191 for United, leading the charge alongside Colin Munro. Along the way, he was involved in a war of words with Mohammad Amir, which extended to a clash involving Munro and Imad Wasim as well.
Off the last ball of the 15th over, Iftikhar scooped a full delivery off Amir to the fine leg fence and instantly unleashed a barrage of words at the bowler.
It turned into a full-blown clash soon after, with Imad entering the scene and engaging in a verbal duel with Iftikhar. The umpires Asif Yaqoob and Rashid Riaz had to pacify the players, with Babar Azam, too, joining in the conversation. Soon after, the action resumed and Iftikhar brought up his maiden IPL fifty, guiding United to an eight-wicket win.
With the win, Islamabad increased their lead at the top of the points table, and now have six wins from eight games in PSL 2021.
Incidentally, the episode happened hours after reports that Amir was set to return to international cricket, after talks with PCB chief Wasim Khan.
