India Women will host England Women for a Test match at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai between December 14 and 17, 2023. This will be the first women’s Test match on Indian soil since India beat South Africa by an innings and 34 runs at Mysuru in 2014-15.
Across this period, India have played only two Test matches – against England at Bristol and against Australia at Carrara – both in 2021. They have drawn both.
When she walks out to toss, Harmanpreet Kaur will become the 12th Indian to lead India Women at Test cricket. She will also become their first new Test captain since Mithali Raj took over in 2005. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai is set to become India’s 16th venue in the format.
England have played Test cricket more regularly. Apart from the Bristol Test match against India, they also played Australia home and away and South Africa at home this decade. However, their last win came nearly a decade ago, at Perth in 2013/14.
The two teams have met 14 times, of which 11 matches have been drawn. England beat India by two runs at Jamshedpur in 1995/96, while India won at Taunton in 2006 and at Wormsley in 2014.
