England’s three-match ODI series in South Africa kicks off this Friday 27 January, with the other two fixtures planned for 29 January and 1 February – see the full England and South Africa squad for the series.
The first two fixtures will take place in Bloemfontein, while the final match will be played in Kimberley.
After crashing out of the T20 World Cup and a battering for their red ball side in Australia, South Africa will be looking for a strong series to start their domestic summer’s international fixtures.
After the England ODIs, the Proteas will face off against West Indies in two Tests followed by three ODIs and three T20Is, before two ODIs against the Netherlands completes their summer.
England have named a strong 14-man squad and it could be an opportunity for some to make their mark.
After proving his fitness with some impressive performances thus far in the SA20, Jofra Archer will likely make his first appearance for England since a T20I against India in March 2021.
Sam Curran also has a chance to continue his brilliant white-ball form for the national side after being named player of the tournament at the T20 World Cup in November.
Likewise, Harry Brook is yet to make an ODI appearance for England, but his talent undeniable and after such an impressive Test series in Pakistan it is likely he will be one of the first names on the team sheet.
South Africa have named a larger, 16-man squad and will be led by Temba Bavuma.
Marco Jansen has had a poor start to his international white-ball career, but his recent form in the SA20 will have England wary of how dangerous a player he can be.
Anrich Nortje and his moustache will be firing down thunderbolts to the English batters and, like Jansen, he has form on his side too.
