The Tests will be held at Mount Maunganui and Wellington respectively, beginning with the first one on February 16. England are currently placed third in the ICC Test rankings, while New Zealand are placed fifth. Inclement weather is set to be an integral factor in the fate of the series, as New Zealand grapples with the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Both teams are technically out of the World Test Championship final race, with Australia, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa in the mix to make it to the finale at the Oval in June.

There will also be some high-profile absentees: Trent Boult has moved to franchise cricket, Kyle Jamieson is dealing with a stress fracture, and Matt Henry is also away for the birth of his child. For England, Stuart Broad made a return, finding a place alongside long-time teammate James Anderson.
