Watch: Jasprit Bumrah produced a sensational delivery to send Ben Duckett’s off stump flying in a rip-roaring spell on the second day of the India-England Hyderabad Test.
England went for Lunch at 89-1, 101 runs behind India – after the break, R Ashwin operated from one end, with Rohit Sharma pressing Bumrah into action from the other.
In the second over of his spell, Bumrah was hit for two fours by Duckett: one off a misfield at cover, and the other off the glove down to fine leg. In his previous over, Bumrah swung a delivery sharply into Duckett, who was hit on the back leg. The bowler went up in appeal, which was turned down. Wicketkeeper KS Bharat and Rohit Sharma combined to decide not to review it.
Replays, though, showed it would have hit the stumps, much to Bumrah’s dismay. The following over, he had his man anyway.
Bumrah set up Duckett by swinging the ball away for the first three balls. The fourth ball was angled towards the leg side but Bumrah stuck to this plan. The next ball was a sharp in-swinger – Duckett, playing for the out-swinger, threw his hands at it, but was completely undone by the movement.
As his off stump was uprooted behind him, Duckett turned around in disappointment and rapped his pads with his bat. Bumrah – usually pretty sedate with his celebrations – let out an uncharacteristic roar.
As reverse swing made an appearance, Bumrah had Joe Root leg-before the very next over. The mayhem continued.
