Watch: R Ashwin was dismissed by a peach from James Anderson within the first hour of play, not long after the two were involved in an exchange of words, on day two of the Visakhapatnam Test.

Ashwin was the overnight batter for India alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, resuming on 336-6. Ten minutes in, he was seen having an animated chat with Anderson at the non-striker’s end, possibly over Ashwin’s standing position when Anderson entered his run-up.

With Jaiswal nearing his double hundred, Anderson kept bowling from one end with the new ball. A breakthrough came in the 101st over, in the form of Ashwin.

Off the third ball, Anderson had Ashwin squared up with a wobble seam delivery that pitched and moved away from him. It whizzed past his bat, hit the thigh pad along the way and went to the keeper. The England players went up in appeal, certain that there was an edge. The umpire raised his finger.

Ashwin reviewed immediately, but replays showed that the ball had indeed taken an edge and travelled behind to Ben Foakes.

He departed for 20, the seventh Indian batter to be sent back between the score of 15 and 35 as India slumped to 364-7 after they won the toss and batted first.
