Watch: Rohit Sharma took a stunner to dismiss Ollie Pope at first slip as England lost their second wicket within the first hour of play on day four of the second Test.

England were set a target of 399 to take a 2-0 lead in the series and were going at a good rate, scoring 132-2 from their first 28 overs. Pope had raced away to a 19-ball 23 as the Indian bowlers struggled with their lines in the first session on day four, before R Ashwin, searching for his 500th Test wicket, provided the breakthrough.

The second ball of the 29th over was just short of a length and on the off stump, which Pope looked to play away with hard hands on his back foot. However, he only managed a thick outside edge to the left of first slip, where Rohit was stationed. The ball flew past the India skipper, who moved his hands along with the ball and managed to take an alert reflex catch on his left stump. The TV broadcast later revealed Rohit completed the catch with 0.45 seconds of it taking Pope’s edge.

It was Test wicket No. 499 for Ashwin, who is playing his 97th Test after making his debut in 2011.
