Resuming the day at 135-1, India cruised to 264 without losing a single wicket in the first session. While Rohit brought up his 12th Test century, Gill scored his fourth in the format. The pair were dismissed shortly after the interval but only after they ensured that their team was in a commanding position to finish the series 4-1 up.

England tried everything to contain the duo, whether deploying a leg slip for Rohit when off-spinner Shoaib Bashir came on to bowl or Mark Wood bowling occasional short balls with as many as six fielders on the leg side. However, nothing worked for the tourists. Rohit set the tempo by smashing Bashir for a straight six and a four in his second over of the day. Then, in the very next over, Gill joined the party, smacking James Anderson down the ground before cutting him hard in front of backward point.

Rohit completed his 12th Test ton off 154 deliveries and his second off the series by flicking Tom Hartley for a single on the last ball of the 58th over. Two balls later, Gill reached his landmark off 137 balls, slog-sweeping Bashir for a four to notch his second century of the series as well.
