Pope, who scored 196 in the first Test, had got a start on Saturday, making 23 in 54 balls before a brilliant yorker by Bumrah ended his innings. Bumrah, who had dismissed Joe Root in his previous over, conceded two runs in his first four balls of the 28th over of the innings before producing a brilliant delivery that left Pope without any answers.

Bumrah got the ball to reverse-swing right into the middle and leg stump, the yorker going through even before Pope’s bat came down. It left Pope stunned as the Vizag crowd erupted.

Bumrah conceded four runs in three overs in his second spell, picking up two wickets as England fell from 123-2 to 136-4. India posted 396 in their first innings following a fine double ton from Yashasvi Jaiswal.
