Jurel, who made his debut in the third Test alongside Sarfaraz Khan, scored his first six in the format, middling a delivery from Wood over third man. Having walked out after the fall of Kuldeep Yadav’s wicket on Friday morning, Jurel played out 10 dots before getting off the mark. He broke the shackles by taking on Wood in the 95th over of the innings with an audacious six over slip.

The fourth ball was short, on off-stump and read 146.7kph on the speed gun and Jurel decided to sway back, playing an upper cut over the slips for a six, to give evidence of his skills.

Earlier in the innings, the other debutant Sarfaraz struck an effortless 66-ball 62 on debut before being run out following a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja, who later apologised for calling for the run.
