Watch: Bangladesh offered the latest contender for the worst review in history against England, as they opted to review an lbw decision on a ball that both pitched outside off and hit the middle of Adil Rashid’s bat.
Bangladesh were under the pump as England launched a late attack in the final 10 overs of their innings when Tamim Iqbal was persuaded to opt for the ill-fated review. Rashid was facing his second delivery from Taskin Ahmed having already hit his first for four through backward point.
Looking to target Rashid’s stumps but missing his line slightly, Taskin served up a wide-of-off-stump yorker which Rashid jammed his bat down on in solid defence – the ball thumping into the middle of the toe-end of the bat. To Rashid’s clear bemusement, Taskin immediately turned around to appeal to the umpire, who understandably turned down his plea.
After a short discussion with bowler and keeper, Tamim signalled to send the decision upstairs to check for the lbw. It was clearly visible on the big screen that not only was the ball pitching well outside the line, but more importantly thudding into the bat and missing the pads altogether.
With only 13 balls were remaining in the innings and little to lose for Bangladesh by that stage in the innings, the review was still a howler. It generated significant reaction online, as well as other contenders for ‘worst review ever’ status.

Alex Hales, clearly following his England teammates progress in the match, chipped in his own self-deprecating entry on the list. He commented an old video of himself opting to review whether he had hit a ball which had been caught at square-leg, hotspot showing a thick mark on his inside edge – though did it come from his bat on pad?

One contender from this year’s T20 World Cup match between England and the West Indies was suggested as a rival to both Bangladesh’s and Hales’ suggestions.

As well as from Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the same competition.

While Jason Holder’s decision to review an lbw shout which had pitched nearly a foot outside leg was also floated.
