Iyer, who is eyeing a comeback into the Indian Test team, has not had the best time in the domestic red-ball tournament and was out for a seven-ball duck at Anantapur today.
India D lost opener Atharva Taide in the first over, bringing skipper Iyer out to the crease. Even before facing a ball, Iyer was the centre of attention as he walked out to bat in sunglasses positioned below his helmet.
Iyer, however, was unable to create much of an impact with the bat. He faced Khaleel for all of his seven balls, who bowled brilliantly to the No.3, setting him up by pushing him on the back foot and bowling several short-length balls to Iyer.
The batter, who has struggled against short bowling in the past, safely played out four such deliveries in a row, but Khaleel mixed it up by sending down a full-length ball next up, which Iyer was unable to keep away safely, chipping it to mid-on.
Besides a counter-attacking 54 in the first Duleep Trophy clash, Iyer has scores of nine and zero but he would have been hoping for more with several batters fighting for a place in India’s middle-order.
