During a 2024 Duleep Trophy match, Rishabh Pant sledged Kuldeep Yadav in characteristic quasi-playful manner.
Chasing 275 in a Duleep Trophy match against India B, India A were left reeling at 99-6 when Kuldeep Yadav joined KL Rahul. Kuldeep hung on defiantly for an hour, outlasting Rahul. He eventually made 14.
During the innings, Kuldeep was subjected to some light-hearted sledge from India B wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. As Pant chirped “sab upar rehna single ke liye sare (bring the field in for singles), Kuldeep responded with “main nahin lunga (I won’t take one)”.
“Kha le maa kasam nahin lega (swear on your mother that you won’t)”, quipped Pant.
Kuldeep was 13 at this point and India A 147-7. As he advanced his score by a run and his team reached 152-7, Pant resumed his antics: “Isko single lene do bohot tagda plan banaya hai iske liye (let him run a single: I have a strong plan for him).”
“Kyun pareshan kar raha hai yaar? (why are you bothering me?)” asked an exasperated Kuldeep.
“Out ho na jaldi (get out right now!)!” responded Pant.
Kuldeep did not add to his total, though it is not clear how important Pant’s sledges were. India A were eventually bowled out for 198 to lose the match by 76 runs.
