Axar Patel hits a six to reach his fifty on day one of the 2024 Duleep Trophy fixture between India D and C.

Watch: Axar Patel has brought up his fifty with three consecutive boundaries during the opening day of the Duleep Trophy fixture between India D and C in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

After being put to bat, India D were reduced to 48-6, but Axar Patel stretched their score to 164, scoring 52 per cent of his team’s runs with a 118-ball 86.

There were several breathtaking shots during his rescue act, of which a series of consecutive boundaries to get to his half-century were the most notable.

Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, bowling his seventh over, landed the ball around off stump. Axar, batting then on 74, needed no second invitation: he used his long levers to get close to the delivery, parking it straight down the ground for a massive six.

The second delivery was almost identical, and Axar bent his left knee to slog sweep it in the deep-wicket region. The ball just landed before the ropes, going for a four.

With the batter, now a hit away from a fifty, he didn’t take his foot off the pedal, playing another cross-batted shot, but this time over long on for a six. Axar raised his bat in style to celebrate his landmark.

For India C, Vijaykumar Vyshak starred with 3-19, while Anshul Kamboj and Himanshu Chauhan took two scalps each. Suthar and Hrithik Shokeen were also among the wickets.
