The 2024 Duleep Trophy started the Indian domestic season on September 5 – here’s how the players selected for India’s Test series against Bangladesh fared during the first round of the competition.
India B
While Musheer Khan starred with a first-innings 373-ball 181 in India B's win over India, Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant played key roles too, putting on a rollicking stand in the second innings. The former made 46 and the latter 61, each scoring at well over a run a ball after his side was reduced to 22-3 in the second innings.
New Test recruit Yash Dayal took 3-50 in the fourth innings, neutralising three top-five batters cheaply while defending 275. Notably, Riyan Parag was caught behind off Dayal’s bowling on both occasions. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a quiet game, dismissed twice by left-arm quick Khaleel Ahmed, making 30 and 9.
India A
For India A, Akash Deep perhaps shone the brightest, taking 4-60 and 5-56 in the match. In the fourth innings, he scored a defiant 42-ball 43 before being run out. On the batting front, KL Rahul, who scored 37 and 57, was their top performer
Shubman Gill failed to impress, managing just 25 and 21 across the match. Among other notable names, Dhruv Jurel (2 and 0) also had a middling outing with the bat but his wicketkeeping performance was top-notch as he took as many as seven catches in the third innings.

Another letdown for India A was Kuldeep Yadav, who lacked venom, taking just a wicket in the first innings while conceding 82 runs. He was taken off the attack after leaking 26 off his three overs in the second.
IND D
After being put to bat, India D were reduced to 48-6, but Axar Patel stretched their first innings to 164, scoring 52 per cent of his team’s runs with a 118-ball 86. In a bid to reach his fifty, he hit 6,4,6 off Player of the Match Manav Suthar, who finished with 1-34 and 7-49 in India C's win. After picking up 2-46 in the first innings, Axar couldn't bowl his team to victory, finishing with 1-54 in the second as India C chased down 233 with four wickets remaining.
Shreyas Iyer made a counter-attacking 54 in the second innings, but it wasn’t enough to earn him a recall to the Test series against Bangladesh.
