Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a seven-ball duck during the second round of the Duleep Trophy, but he picked up a wicket with the ball

The second day of the second round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy was played on September 13 in Anantapur and here’s the round-up from both games.

Devdutt Padikkal shines in dismal batting performance for India D

India A added just two more runs to their overnight score and were bowled out for 290 against India D but a tremendous bowling performance from Khaleel Ahmed helped them take a mighty lead in the first innings.

Khaleel dismissed Atharva Taide on just the third ball of India D’s batting before setting up Shreyas Iyer, who walked out to bat in sunglasses. He started by bowling short to the India D captain before sending down a full-length ball that the batter was unable to keep away. Sanju Samson fell for five as India A were reduced to 52-4 but Devdutt Padikkal held one end up, displaying his temperament on a wicket that had assistance for the quicks.

He made 92 in 124 balls, despite having minimal support from the rest of the batters. Barring Ricky Bhui (23) and Harshit Rana (31), none of the last seven batters could cross double-digits, as India D were all out for 183.

Khaleel picked up 3-39 while right-arm seamer Aaqib Khan got three as well.

India A made 115 for the first wicket, before Iyer dismissed Mayank Agarwal on the last ball of the day for 56. They have a lead of 222 runs.

Score at stumps, day two: India A 115-1 (Pratham Singh 59*, Shreyas Iyer 1-0) lead by 222 runs vs India D.

India C extend lead

Contrary to the other game, the clash between India C and B was played on a flatter wicket, which aided in run-scoring. India C, resuming on 375-5, made 150 more runs, with Manav Suthar making 82. Anshul Kamboj contributed with a quick 27-ball 38, taking the score over the 500-run mark.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had retired hurt on day one, made 58 and was the sixth batter to be dismissed. Mukesh Kumar and Rahul Chahar picked up four wickets apiece.

There was limited joy for the India C bowlers as B openers Abhimanyu Easwaran and N Jagadeesan made 124 without the loss of a wicket. India C lead by 401 runs.

Score at stumps, day two: India B 124-0 (N Jagadeesan 67*) trail by 401 runs vs India C.
