Ishan Kishan, who scored a century in his first first-class appearance for 14 months.

The second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 began on September 12 in Anantapur. Here are all the updates from day one.

Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian rescue India A

At the Rural Development Trust "A" Stadium, Shreyas Iyer's India D team fielded first against India A, led by Mayank Agarwal after Shubman Gill left the side to join the Indian Test team.

Karnataka pacer Vidwath Kaverappa was the star of the morning session, as he bowled a probing new-ball spell which accounted for his state-mate Agarwal as well as Pratham Singh.

Riyan Parag then played a counter-attacking knock containing some exquisite shots, but he was removed by Arshdeep Singh for a 29-ball 37. Tilak Varma went soon after him, caught at slip off Saransh Jain for just 10. Youngsters Shashwat Rawat and Kumar Kushagra started to rebuild the innings, but Rawat fell to leave his side five down with the score at 93.

Shams Mulani then came out to the crease, and put in a typically gritty performance. He lost Kushagra with the score at 144, but was joined by Mumbai teammate Tanush Kotian. The pair put on 91 runs before Kotian was dismissed by Saurabh Kumar for 53.

By the end of the day's play, Mulani's efforts saw him remain not out on 88, with his side at 288-8.

Score at stumps, day one: India A 288-8 (Shams Mulani 88*, Vidwath Kaverappa 2-30) vs India D.

Ishan Kishan slams century on first-class return

The big news from the Rural Development Trust "B" Stadium was the return of Ishan Kishan to first-class cricket, for the first time in 14 months. He turned out for India C, despite being named in the India D squad earlier.

India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the batting with B Sai Sudharsan, but had to retire hurt after just two deliveries, reportedly twisting his ankle while running. Rajat Patidar replaced him, and put on 92 runs alongside Sai Sudharsan before falling to Navdeep Saini for 40.

Kishan then walked out to the middle, and began to play aggressively, picking up where he had left off in the Buchi Babu invitational tournament last month. Scoring at nearly a run-a-ball, he went past fifty and eventually hundred, scoring 111 in all before being bowled by Mukesh Kumar.

Tamil Nadu (from next season, Kerala)'s B Indrajith gave Kishan company with a solid 78, as the pair put on 189 for the third wicket.

Gaikwad came back out to bat after Kishan was dismissed, making his way to an unbeaten 46 off 50 balls by the end of the day. Alongside Manav Suthar, he took his side to 357-5, scoring at well over four runs an over.

Score at stumps, day one: India C 357-5 (Ishan Kishan 111, Mukesh Kumar 3-76) vs India B.
