Mohammedan scored 264 in their 50 overs after being asked to bat first, thanks to opener Anisul Islam Emon's 114 and Mahidul Islam Ankon's 48. In the run chase, Abahani were 44-2 in seven overs when pacer Ebadot Hossain struck Mohammed Mithun on the pad, and appealed for lbw.

Despite vociferous shouts from several close-in fielders, umpire Tanvir Ahmed's finger stayed down as the Mohammedan players stood still in disbelief. As they began to move back to their positions for the next ball, Hridoy was still remonstrating with square leg umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat.

Hridoy was clearly agitated, wagging a finger at Sharfuddoula and gesturing in the umpire's direction even after the pair were separated by Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Just over two overs prior to this incident, another decision had irked Hridoy. He had been left frustrated at Sharfuddoula when the umpire ruled Parvez Hossain Emon not out, off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. On that occasion, the Mohammedan skipper (No.77) came rushing in from the covers to appeal, before appearing to shout something in anger at Sharfuddoula when the finger did not go up.

Towhid Hridoy suspended for one match

Mohammedan eventually went on to bowl Abahani out for 225 and secure victory by 39 runs as Ebadot took 4-36. After the match though, it was confirmed that Hridoy had been served with a one-match suspension for the Level 2 offence of showing dissent at an umpire's decision.

The batter had spoken after the game, saying, "I can't explain everything that happened. But a lot of things happened in the heat of the moment. They also make mistakes, but what I think is that they can make mistakes but I think that mistakes should be admitted.

"If I make a mistake, I will also admit it. But if you don't admit the mistake and say that it is not a mistake, then I won't have it. We respect the three international umpires. We are also international cricketers. In such a match, one or two decisions can make a big difference."

Mohammedan will now need to find a new skipper for their next match, the first fixture of the Super League.
