Watch: England Test opener Zak Crawley was bowled cheaply on Day 1 (April 4) of Kent's County Championship 2025 match against Northamptonshire.
Asked to bat first, Kent suffered an early setback, losing their first wicket for just three runs. Opener Crawley, managing only a single run from six deliveries, attempted a booming straight drive against Northamptonshire's left-arm seamer Liam Guthrie. The ball nipped back sharply, sneaking between bat and pad to demolish Crawley's off and middle stumps.
The dismissal extended Crawley’s wretched run of form, further intensifying scrutiny over his place in England’s Test side. Having gone five matches without a fifty, his Test average has now dipped to 30.51. The struggles continued during his subsequent SA20 stint with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, where he managed just 88 runs in eight matches before being dropped by the two-time champions.
With Jacob Bethell’s rise, Crawley’s latest failure deals another blow to his prospects of retaining his place in England’s Test side.
