Middlesex's Leus du Plooy suffered a rare double dismissal on the fourth day (April 28) of their 2025 County Championship Division Two clash against Derbyshire at Derby.
The incident occurred in the 56th over after Middlesex were forced to follow on. Blair Tickner, bowling from over the wicket, delivered a searing yorker that thudded into du Plooy's boot before he could get his bat down. Hobbling in pain, the batter struggled back to the pavilion without waiting - the dismissal looked plumb, and the umpire's finger went up immediately.
Replays revealed a double jeopardy situation: while the lbw decision stood, the short-leg fielder had simultaneously taken aim at the stumps, showing du Plooy was short of his crease. Had the lbw appeal been denied, he would have been run out regardless.

Not the first time du Plooy was stuck on the boot
During Middlesex's first innings reply to Derbyshire's 472, du Plooy suffered an almost identical blow to his foot from left-arm seamer Luis Reece. The incident occurred with Middlesex at 62-2, as du Plooy, batting on four off 15 balls, went down on his knees writhing in pain before being forced to retire hurt soon after.
Du Plooy, however, returned to bat on day three, scoring a 134-ball 52. Ben Geddes (59) and Jack Davies (54) also fought for Middlesex, but they fell eight shy of avoiding a follow-on.
He was dismissed for 17 off 16 in the second innings, Middlesex at 194-4. At the time of writing, they have taken an 86-run lead with four wickets still in hand.
