Glamorgan, featuring England Test spinner Shoaib Bashir, conceded 450 runs against Cardiff UCCE in their pre-season warm-up match ahead of the 2025 County Championship.
The friendly match was played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff between March 30 and April 1. Batting first, Glamorgan took early control as they declared their innings at 363-5. Captain Sam Northeast anchored the effort with a polished 137, supported by Colin Ingram’s brisk fifty. Bashir, on his Glamorgan debut, bowled three overs as Cardiff UCCE closed Day 1 on 24/0.
Cardiff UCCE mounted a spirited reply on Day 2, with captain Nic Halstead-Cleak scoring a brilliant 112. Supported by half-centuries from Asa Tribe and Ben Kellaway – two of the three Glamorgan players representing the university side – Cardiff UCCE declared at 450-9 late in the day, hoping for quick wickets. Glamorgan openers Eddie Byrom and Billy Root survived the brief period to reach 28-0 at stumps.
With a 59-run deficit to climb, Glamorgan suffered a collapse in their second innings on the third day, reaching 119-5 at lunch.

Root and Byrom showed intent, with Root square-cutting Joseph Davies for four and Byrom punching Francis Moore backward of point. But Davies soon trapped Root lbw at 44-1, triggering the slide. Byrom's aggressive 42 ended when he holed out to Kellaway off Jude Wright at 89-3. Glamorgan were 133-5 in 28.4 overs when the match ended in a draw.

Bashir, 21, joined Glamorgan on a short-term loan from Somerset and will cover for injured legspinner Mason Crane for the first three County Championship matches. Crane is sidelined for a month with a shoulder injury.
James Harris (calf) and allrounder Dan Douthwaite (pectoral) also remain unavailable, though Douthwaite has resumed net bowling this week. Fast bowler Jamie McIlroy missed the pre-season match due to a concussion.
Glamorgan will start their championship campaign on April 4 against Lancashire at the same venue.
