The 125th edition of the County Championship will get underway from April 4. The eighteen teams across the two Divisions have signed up their cricketers, including their overseas contingent, not all of whom will play the full summer.
County cricket 2025: Williamson to play, Thakur withdraws
Among high-profile overseas signings, Kane Williamson has been secured by Middlesex. The New Zealand star will feature in at least five County Championship matches during the latter half of the season, plus a minimum of 10 Vitality Blast fixtures. Williamson will join the squad in May following his stint with Karachi Kings in PSL 2025.

In another major development, India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, initially set to play seven County Championship matches for Essex after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, withdrew from the deal when Lucknow Super Giants signed him as an injury replacement.
