Watch: Surrey’s keeper, first slip, and second slip all ended up in a heap in an amusing incident in their County Championship clash against Middlesex.
Three men were required to dismiss Ethan Bamber, the Seaxes’ No.10, including Test cricketers Rory Burns, Rikki Clarke and Ben Foakes. He aimed a wild drive at Kemar Roach, only succeeding in sending a thick edge flying the way of the Surrey skipper at second slip.
He managed to get a hand to the ball but couldn’t cling on, with the rebound lobbing up to his left, where the other two members of the cordon were stationed. Clarke’s reflexes were switched on, allowing him to take the catch virtually out of Foakes’ gloves. However, with Clarke moving one way and Foakes the other, a collision was always inevitable, with the gloveman sweeping away the all-rounder’s legs. Thankfully for Surrey, Clarke had got the ball.
The game went to stumps finely poised, with Surrey nine runs behind and three wickets down. Burns had past his half-century, with Foakes joining him unbeaten at stumps.
