On his return from injury, Jofra Archer looked close to his very best on the opening day of Sussex’s home County Championship clash against Kent.
It was Archer’s first appearance in first-team cricket since he had surgery on his right hand after England’s tour of India earlier this year; the injury meant he took no part in this year’s IPL.
Archer played in Sussex’s second XI fixture against a second string Surrey side last week, taking 2-101 but the England quick looked close to his best in his first County Championship appearance since 2018.
In a hostile opening spell Archer took two early wickets, those of Kent stand-in skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond and Archer’s England teammate Zak Crawley.
