Watch: Dom Sibley showed off his full range of strokes against Somerset, in a brisk knock which could yet prove crucial to Warwickshire’s chances of winning the County Championship.
Lancashire’s victory over Hampshire means that a victory for the Birmingham-based side will give them the County Championship title, but a draw looked by far the most likely outcome with both sides’ first innings totals passing 350, and Somerset claiming a small lead.
However, Sibley set the tone as Warwickshire attempted to chase quick runs in hopes of a declaration. Sometimes criticised during his first stint in England’s Test side for a supposed lack of fluency, he showed he could strike it with the best of them, smashing a succession of glorious strokes of which any white-ball superstar would be proud.
There was a pair of glorious leg-side sixes, Sibley even coming down the track to the seam of Josh Davey, while he reserved his most inventive stroke for sometime England teammate Jack Leach, unfurling a reverse sweep which raced to the ropes.
He ended up with 50 off just 69 balls. Never mind the Ashes, is there room on England’s plane to the UAE for the T20 World Cup for ‘Sib Richards’?
