Watch: A humorous moment in a County Championship clash between Yorkshire and Hampshire went viral, with seam bowler Keith Barker getting one over on top-order batsman Nick Gubbins after a slip-up while running between the wickets.
The amusing incident occurred on day one of the ongoing match between the two at Lord’s. Gubbins, who would make a valuable half-century, tucked the ball into the leg-side, with two runs seemingly on offer. However, having run the first hard, Gubbins slipped while turning for the second, meaning he had to settle for just a single.
The best was yet to come however, with Barker stretching out a hand in an apparent offer to help Gubbins up, only to withdraw just as the Middlesaxon had gone to accept his aid. The Grade Cricketer summed up the moment best. “Alpha’s gonna alpha”, they tweeted, with the accompanying video of the clip having now been viewed over 10,000 times.
Gubbins’ knock was the only Middlesex half-century of the game, with Barker’s 84 in Hampshire’s first innings the highest score of the match.
