Gloucestershire batsman Tom Lace made his frustration evident after he was given out caught behind in Gloucestershire’s top-of-the-table group two County Championship clash against Somerset at Bristol.

The home side were up against it in a fixture significantly affected by the weather. An unbeaten hundred from Tom Abell helped the hosts post a first innings score of 300-8d before they snared two early Gloucestershire wickets in the closing stages of the third day.

With Gloucestershire only two wickets down in their first innings at the start of the final day, the prospect of a result seemed far-fetched. But a flurry of wickets from Craig Overton and Josh Davey soon reduced Gloucestershire to 27-6. One of the wickets to fall early on the final day was that of Lace, who was given out caught behind off the bowling of Overton for nought.

Lace’s frustration at the dismissal was clear to see.

Further rain meant that Somerset’s slim chances of a final day victory quickly diminished, leaving the draw the most likely result, one that could prove vital come the end of the group stages. Gloucestershire currently sit top of the group having played a game less than Somerset and Hampshire who sit second and third in the table respectively, with the top two sides qualifying for division one.
