Watch: on his first return to the Riverside following a spell at Durham three seasons ago, watch the bizarre caught and bowled Axar Patel took for the county in 2018.
Axar Patel returned to the Riverside as part of the Indian touring side that took on a County Select XI.
Axar took 18 wickets during his seven match spell with the county, averaging just 13.05 with the ball and taking 7-54 against Warwickshire. However, despite being dominant with the ball during his spell, this wicket was entirely fortuitous. A full delivery directed at leg stump was clipped firmly into the onside, only to hit short-leg square in the helmet and balloon back to a surprised, but pleased, Axar Patel.
The game against the County Select XI was a quieter affair for Axar, taking only one wicket in the match in his 10 overs and also getting out for a duck off the bowling of Warwickshire’s Craig Miles.
The three-day game between India and the County Select XI ended in a draw, with standout performances from KL Rahul for India who scored 101 retired in the first innings and Haseeb Hameed for the Select County XI who registered a century of his own in reply, finishing on 112.
With the ball, Umesh Yadav was the standout bowler for the touring side taking 3-22 off his fifteen overs, whilst it was Craig Miles 4-45 that led the way for the County team.
