The fourth match of the CPL 2026 was nothing short of a roller-coaster, as the Barbados Tridents survived a scare against the Jamaica Kingsmen in Kingston.
Chasing a stiff 207 after comprehensive fifties from Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford for the Barbados Tridents in the first innings, the Jamaica Kingsmen almost got the job done, but fell agonisingly short to register their second defeat in a row.
One doesn’t really stand a chance chasing the stiff total after being reduced to 8-3, which soon became 60-5. But Andre Russell had other plans, turning around the game in one of his best knocks in recent years.
He stitched a 72-run stand along with Carty for the sixth wicket, which came in 30 deliveries before Carty was dismissed in the 14th over of the innings. Keemo Paul followed soon after as Daniel Sams finished with figures of 4-20 in his four overs. Russell then got together with Vitel Lawes for a 69-run stand, to take the Kingsmen within touching distance of the target.
Fifteen runs were required off the last over, which Russell got down to six off three with his ninth six of the innings. Just as the team were looking towards a miracle win, two wickets off the next two deliveries changed the course of the game.
Russell was dismissed off the fourth delivery of the last over, and Lawes ran himself out on the very next delivery to leave six runs to get off the last ball. Ramon Simmonds bowled a dot to hand Tridents their first win of the season.
