Watch: Azam Khan was bowled bizarrely during the CPL 2024 match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Antigua & Barbuda Falcons yesterday (August 30).

Batting at No.5 while chasing Falcon’s 168 runs, Azam found it difficult in the middle, scoring just five off his first seven balls. He finally broke the shackles by hitting pacer Shamar Springer for a four. Springer replied with a vicious bouncer off the next delivery. Azam tried to pull off from an awkward length but made a meal out of it, with the ball hitting his helmet. In the process, he lost his balance, resulting in the ball hitting the stumps. He fell on the ground while holding his neck and had to be attained by medical staff before returning to the pavilion for a run-a-ball nine.

Dwaine Pretorius ultimately saved the day for the Warriors, courtesy of a blazing cameo. With four runs needed off the last ball, he launched Mohammad Amir for six over long off to pull off a jailbreak. Coming in to defend 16 runs in the final over, Amir went for 18.

Azam, a regular in franchise T20 cricket with impressive numbers as a finisher, is yet to crack the code in international matches for Pakistan. He has played 14 T20Is so far, managing just 88 runs without a fifty. His inability to perform in international matches is often attributed to his lack of fitness.
