Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from T20 cricket, with the ongoing Caribbean Premier League being his last professional outing.

Dwayne Bravo has announced that the ongoing Caribbean Premier League will be his last professional tournament on home soil.

Bravo will represent Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2024 CPL for the last time after he confirmed it would be his last tournament in the Caribbean. The all-rounder had already retired from international cricket after the 2021 T20 World Cup but continued playing franchise cricket whilst juggling a coaching career. Most recently, he was the bowling coach of Afghanistan in this year’s T20 World Cup, in which the side qualified for the semi-final for the first time.

Arguably one of the greatest players in the format, Bravo announced his decision with a video on social media, saying: “I just want to ensure the last dance finishes at home. It's not about the wickets, the trophies, the success that I have. For me, what is important is that I want to be remembered as a good person, as a teammate and a good human being.”

The caption of the video read: "It’s been a great journey. Today I would like to announce my retirement from @cplt20. This season will be my last one and I’m looking forward to playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl! @tkriders - where it all started for me and will end with my team that I help built from scratch!"

There was confusion regarding the above statement, though, with many believing that the upcoming CPL would be Bravo's final professional tournament. However, it was confirmed to Wisden.com that Bravo will only be retiring from the CPL and that it will be his last competition as a player on home soil.

The end of an illustrious CPL career

In the CPL, Bravo played for two teams, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Trinbago Knight Riders. He represented Patriots between 2021 and 2022, playing 18 games. He has played 85 games for TKR before the start of the 2024 season.

He is also the highest wicket-taker in the CPL, picking up 128 wickets.

Overall, Bravo played 100 first-class games along with 227 List A matches but it has been in the T20 format where he has left his mark. As of Saturday, he has played 578 T20 games, the second-highest in the world. He has taken as many as 630 wickets in the shorter format, the most by any player. He has also made 6,970 runs, establishing himself as a genuine match-winner in both departments.

Bravo has represented 27 teams in T20 cricket across 11 different countries, winning 17 titles with the sides. He also won the T20 World Cup with the West Indies twice.
