Pakistan batsman Asif Ali almost took the ‘hard hitting’ tag often applied to his batting to a new, unsavoury level, swinging his bat towards the head of the bowler who dismissed him during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) clash.

Playing for Jamaica Tallawahs against Guyana Amazon Warriors, Asif holed out to long-on off West Indies international Keemo Paul, before taking umbrage at a perceived send-off directed in his direction. After Paul had advanced towards him with his arms outstretched, Asif swished his bat in the direction of the right-arm quick’s head.

Paul then turned back towards Asif, but by then he had tucked his bat under his arm and begun his march towards the dressing room in earnest. Match referee Reon King was then shown on screen, with the commentators suggesting Asif may have landed himself in hot water. As yet, there has been no news on what sort of punishment his actions might incur.

Despite Asif’s dismissal for three, Tallawahs emerged triumphant by five wickets, gunning down the Amazon Warriors’ 109 with two overs to spare.
