Watch: England Test opener Ben Duckett plucked a stunning one-handed catch for Melbourne Stars against Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League on Friday (December 20).

In the sixth match of the 2024/25 season, the Stars elected to field first at the Adelaide Oval. Strikers opener Matt Short was dismissed in the third over for 11 before Jake Weatherald departed off the last ball of the Powerplay.

After Ollie Pope was dismissed in the 11th over, D'Arcy Short and Alex Ross began to stitch a partnership together. The pair had put on 30 runs off 26 balls when Short tried slapping Peter Siddle over covers in the 15th over.

The ball zipped off Short's bat, and it sounded as though it would scream away to the fence. But the fielder at covers, England international Ben Duckett, had other ideas.

Duckett, not a tall man by any stretch, leapt off the ground with a near-full-length dive and managed to get a hand to the ball even as it passed him, arching his back to hold on in a stunning display of athleticism, and leading one of the broadcast commentators to dub it "one of the great BBL catches".
