The Big Bash League match between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday was interrupted in the second innings by a fire that broke out in the DJ booth.
In match 36 of this season, the Hurricanes made a solid start in pursuit of a stiff target of 202, scoring 17 off the first over and finishing the four-over Powerplay on 47-0 thanks to Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen.

But even as Jewell prepared to face up to the first ball of the fifth over, he was distracted, and the match interrupted as it emerged that a fire had broken out in the DJ booth at the Gabba. A member of the stadium attended to the emergency (in remarkably nonchalant fashion) with a fire extinguisher, but needed assistance from another colleague after a minute or so.
Spectators seated in that area of the ground, just under the scoreboard in the third tier, were evacuated as a precautionary measure. After working on the fire with extinguishers, the blaze was eventually put out in about two minutes, and the match resumed.
Earlier in the day, Hurricanes skipper Nathan Ellis had elected to put the Heat, who had Australian Test trio Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne in the lineup, in to bat.
McSweeney was dismissed for one by left-arm quick Marcus Bean, who was making his professional debut in this match. Captain Khawaja was removed by his opposite number for 23, before Labuschagne put on 66 for the third wicket with Matt Renshaw (40).
Labuschagne was then involved in another significant stand, 85 runs for the fifth wickets with Tom Alsop (39) before he was dismissed off the final ball of the innings for 77. At the time of writing, the Hurricanes were 85-2 in 7.4 overs in reply.
