England players in BBL

Australia have released a member of their Border Gavaskar Trophy squad to play in the 2024/25 Big Bash League, while a couple of England Test stars are also set to feature in the competition following the conclusion of their series against New Zealand.

According to an ESPNcricinfo report, Josh Inglis has been released to appear for the Perth Scorchers in their BBL game against the Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday (December 21) three days after the completion of the Gabba Test. Inglis, while not a part of the XI that played the Test match, acted as a substitute fielder for a major part of the game to cover for the injured Josh Hazlewood.

The fourth Test of the series will be played in Melbourne from December 26. Australia haven't announced the squad for the last two games yet, but even if Inglis is to feature in it, he could still make at least two appearances for Perth Scorchers before the Boxing Day Test - on December 21 against the Hurricanes and on December 23 against Melbourne Renegades.

A few more players are heading over to play in the BBL coming off Test assignments. England opener Ben Duckett and young left-hander Jacob Bethell have arrived in Australia after their 2-1 Test series victory in New Zealand. Duckett was Melbourne Stars' No.1 pick in the overseas draft and is expected to make his team debut against Adelaide Strikers on December 20.

Bethell, who impressed with three half-centuries in New Zealand and has been signed up by RCB for IPL 2025, is set to make his BBL debut for the Renegades against the Hurricanes tonight (December 19).

In another boost to the BBL playing contingent, Glenn Maxwell is fit again and is set to make his comeback for Melbourne Stars in Friday night's clash against the Adelaide Strikers.

So far, every team except the Hurricanes have played at least one game, with the Scorchers sitting at the top.
