Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani received a boost in the latest ICC men's Test rankings, joining an illustrious compatriot in a club of two.
In the first Test between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in Sylhet last week, the visitors managed a three-wicket win after a late stutter on day four. The star of their victory was fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, who equalled the national record for the fastest to 50 Test wickets.
Muzarabani joins Heath Streak in 700-point club
He took 3-50 in the first innings, before running through Bangladesh in the second with 6-72. Muzarabani's efforts have been rewarded with a jump in the latest ICC men's Test rankings, from 29th to 15th. He is now ranked above the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Kyle Jamieson and Keshav Maharaj, among others.
Muzarabani's rating also went up from 582 to 705, a career-best. As recently as December 2024, he had been ranked 48th, with 416 rating points.
His latest rise has taken Muzarabani into a club that has only one other member – Heath Streak. Until now, Streak was the only bowler from Zimbabwe to achieve a rating of 700 points or more, doing so for the first time in January 1996.
Streak reached a peak rating of 794 (rank no.5 in the world at the time) in September that year, and took 216 wickets in 65 Tests for Zimbabwe across his career. He dropped below a rating of 700 for the last time in September 2001.
The other major shifts in the rankings saw Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz move from 30th to 26th among bowlers, while wicketkeeper Jaker Ali moved up by 10 spots, from 60th to 50th in the batting rankings.
