Batting first, India posted 282-8, their highest total in women’s ODIs against Australia. Jemimah Rodrigues smashed 82 in 77 balls, while Pooja Vastrakar remained unbeaten on a 46-ball 62 – the highest score by a No.9 in the format.

Australian captain Alyssa Healy then opened batting with Phoebe Litchfield, while Renuka Singh Thakur bowled the first over.

Healy missed the first ball, which hit her on the pad, but she blocked the second ball. Thakur bowled the third ball outside the off-stump, Healy went for a drive. However, she perhaps had to reach out more than she would have wanted to, and the ball flew off the outside edge to the left of Sneh Rana at short third.

Rana was named Player of the Match at the recently concluded Test match against the same opposition for her figures of 3-56 and 4-63. Now, she flew to her left – her wrong side – and grabbed the ball with both hands to complete a spectacular catch.

This was Healy’s first ODI duck since September 2021, and second since September 2016.

However, Australia recovered from the early blow, and were 67-1 after 12 overs at the time of writing. At the crease were Litchfield (24 in 35 balls) and Ellyse Perry (41 in 34).
