Watch: Star Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry narrowly missed out on her third Test ton, and the first in four years, after playing a loose shot on 99 off England debutant Lauren Filer during the one-off Women’s Ashes Test on day one (June 22).

Perry, who had a batting average of 75.20 before the game, with two hundreds and three fifties in 10 Tests, added to her impressive record on Thursday as she raced away to yet another half-century against England in 76 deliveries. She was on the verge of converting her knock into three digits but fell one short of the landmark when caught in the gully off a length ball.
On the last delivery of the 60th over, Filer, who was playing her first international game, bowled outside the off stump, and Perry flashed hard in an attempt to get her 16th boundary of the innings. However, she could not clear Natalie Sciver-Brunt, who held on as the ball passed her head.
After the day’s play ended, Perry spoke about missing the hundred. “It’s just like any other time to get out. It’s a bit of a bummer, but gosh, the game definitely goes on, and life goes on for sure.”
Australia ended day one on 328-7 in 85 overs. Filer ended with 2-65, also having sent back Beth Mooney for her maiden wicket earlier in the day.
