Watch: Josh Hazlewood gave Abdullah Shafique a round of applause after the latter hit him for a perfect cover drive during the second ODI in Adelaide today (November 8).
After being bowled out for 163, Australia were desperate to get some early wickets but the Pakistan opening duo of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique soon removed all hopes, stitching together a rapid 137-run stand. Ayub hit six sixes during his knock of 82 while Shafique was unbeaten on 64 off 69, with three sixes and four fours, one that was hailed by the bowler as well.
On the fifth ball of the tenth over, Hazlewood sent down a full-length delivery, which Shafique drove through mid-off. Hazlewood, who was looking at the ball in his follow-through, immediately clapped in admiration.
“I love that,” exclaimed the commentator, talking about Hazlewood’s gesture.
Shafique hit another four on the next delivery as well, a perfect square drive off the middle of his bat.
Pakistan’s win was their first against Australia in the country in the last 19 years, while the hosts succumbed to their worst defeat at home, losing by nine wickets and 141 balls to spare.
