Glenn Maxwell injured his hamstring and had to limp off the field during Australia’s third T20I against Pakistan today (November 18).

Maxwell injured himself on the fourth ball of the 13th over of Pakistan’s innings. Abbas Afridi defended Adam Zampa to wide of short mid-wicket, where Maxwell was positioned. The all-rounder was chasing the ball when he pulled up his hamstring, hobbling on one leg.

"He wasn’t sprinting, he was just jogging after the ball," commentator Mark Howard summed up the moment on Fox Sports. "That doesn’t look good at all. This is a big developing story with Glenn Maxwell. Hopefully it’s OK." Maxwell went off the field minutes later visibly looking in discomfort.

Cricket Australia released a statement on social media updating on Maxwell's extent of injury: "Glenn Maxwell has sustained a suspected low-grade left hamstring injury. He may bat in the second innings if required."

Australia, aiming for the first series whitewash, bowled out Pakistan for 117 in 18.1 overs. Aaron Hardie took 3-21, while Adam Zampa and Spencer Johnson took two wickets each, and Nathan Ellis and Xavier Bartlett took one each.

The hosts didn’t require Maxwell’s service with the bat as they chased down the target in 11.2 overs with seven wickets remaining. Marcus Stoinis, batting at No.4, finished unbeaten on 61 off 27, hitting five fours and as many sixes.

Maxwell, who leads Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, might be in a race against time to be fit for his side’s upcoming season’s opener on December 15 against Perth Scorchers.
