Australia vs Pakistan (M) 2024

Watch: Rizwan consults Australia batter for caught-behind review, turns out unsuccessful

Rizwan consults Zampa for review

Watch: Mohammad Rizwan consulted Adam Zampa before going for a review in a hilarious exchange at the Adelaide Oval during the second Australia-Pakistan ODI.

Pakistan had Australia struggling at 130-8, bringing Zampa to the crease. Haris Rauf (5-29), and Shaheen Shah Afridi (3-26) were the chief destroyers for Pakistan. Zampa stuck around and added two crucial partnerships: 16 for the ninth wicket with Pat Cummins and 17 for the tenth with Josh Hazlewood, scoring 18 off 21.

In the 34th over, off the bowling of Naseem Shah, Zampa attempted to hook a Naseem Shah bouncer, only to miss it and for Pakistan fielders to go up in appeal. The umpire was unmoved, giving it not out when Rizwan rushed towards the batting crease to discuss the possibility of a review.

However, instead of talking to his bowler and other teammates, Rizwan directly asked Zampa if he heard a nick and whether he should take the review. Zampa, playing along, suggested Rizwan go for it.

"You heard something?" Rizwan asked Zampa, to which the leg-spinner replied, "You guys appeal for everything." Then Rizwan seemingly asked Zampa if he should take the review: "Can I take it (DRS) now?" "Yeah you should, you should take it," Zampa responded.

Rizwan immediately went up for the review after gaining Zampa's approval, but the replays showed that the ball had passed way above his bat. Had it been out, it would have been Rizwan's seventh catch of the innings, a world record in ODIs.

Australia eventually finished on 163, with Rizwan equalling the world record of six catches.
