As with the first three of his Test career, Yashasvi Jaiswal converted his fourth Test hundred, at Perth in 2024-25, to a 150.
On his Test debut, Jaiswal had impressed with 171 against the West Indies at Roseau, in India’s first Test match of the 2023-25 World Test Championship. He did not hit another hundred in his next three Test matches, but came close in his fourth, at Hyderabad earlier this year, when he hit 80 against England.
He followed that with a double hundred in each of his next two Tests – 209 at Visakhapatnam, followed by 214 not out at Rajkot. Since then, he reached fifty several times, but was unable to go past the 77 he managed against New Zealand in the Pune Test match in October.
At Perth, he fell for a duck in the first innings, but went on to get a hundred in the second and stretched the innings to 161. In the process, Jaiswal became only the second batter, after Graeme Smith, to convert his first four tons into 150s. In fact, Smith had gone a step further, ensuring three of these were double centuries. Smith’s streak also included two 250s, a mark Jaiswal is yet to reach.

For more perspective, it is important to mention that among Indian Test openers, only Virender Sehwag (14) and Sunil Gavaskar (11) have hit more Test 150s than Jaiswal, though Gautam Gambhir and M Vijay also have four 150s each.
With a 1,500-run cut-off, Jaiswal’s batting average of 58.07 is the highest among Indians and the ninth-best in the history of Test cricket.
