India recorded a dominant win over Australia in the series opener of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy in Perth - here's the updated WTC points table following the first AUS vs IND Test.
After being skittled out for 150 on day one, India turned things around to take a 46-run first-innings lead. Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc, picking up 5-30.
In their second innings, India put up a batting masterclass, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul scoring 201 runs across 63 overs, their highest opening stand in Australia. Jaiswal scored 161, becoming only the second batter to convert his first four Test hundreds into 150s, while Rahul contributed with a 176-ball 77.
Virat Kohli also brought up his much-awaited 30th ton in the format, overtaking Don Bradman’s tally. In a bid to get quick runs, the batter stitched a partnership of 77 runs in just 8.4 overs with Nitish Kumar Reddy (38*) before India declared their innings for 487-6. India set up a target of 534, their highest ever against Australia.
A defeat was imminent for the hosts as they were bowled out for 238 runs in the fourth innings, succumbing to a 295-run loss.
