Australia won the fifth Test against India at the SCG to win the series 3-1 and confirm their spot in the World Test Championship final.
On a spicy Sydney pitch, India were bowled out for 185 on the first day after winning the toss and choosing to bat. They responded strongly with the ball, knocking Australia over for 181 and securing a slender four-run lead.
Beau Webster, on debut, scored a half-century while Prasidh Krishna, playing his first match of the series, picked 3-42. Towards the latter half of the Australian first innings, Jasprit Bumrah, leading in place of Rohit Sharma in this Test, walked off with back spasms. While it didn't hurt India immediately, his injury ended up playing a massive role in the second innings as India failed to defend a low total.
Rishabh Pant healined India's second innings with a whirlwind 61 off 33 as the rest of the batters disappointed. Scott Boland was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, taking 6-45 and becoming the bowler with the lowest Test bowling average since the first World War. Australia were set 162 to win, which they gunned down in X overs with the loss of just four wickets.
The win meant Australia took the series 3-1, their first series victory over India since 2014-15. It also confirmed Australia's spot in the 2025 World Test Championship final alongside South Africa, who have already qualified.
Australia's points percentage now stands at 63.73, less than three points behind South Africa's at the top. India, on the other hand, now stand eliminated with their points percentage dropping to 50 and their WTC campaign coming to an end.
