Watch: Travis Head, Australia's wrecker-in-chief in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was undone by a Jasprit Bumrah delivery, shouldering arms and losing his off stump at the MCG.
Head has scored 409 runs at 81.80 in the series, comfortably the most by any batter from either side. Ahead of the fourth Test, Head recovered from a minor quad strain which had initially put him in doubt for participation in the penultimate Test of the series. He had suffered the injury while batting in the Brisbane Test.
He walked in when Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed off the first ball of the 66th over, holing out to Virat Kohli off Washington Sundar.
In at five, Head played out six dots, before an error of judgement off the seventh one saw him lose his off-stump to Jasprit Bumrah.
The 30-year-old, with scores of 11, 89, 140, 152 and 17 in the series so far, fell for his first duck since his pair in Brisbane early in the year against the West Indies. In all, it was the seventh duck off his Test career.
Bumrah, who suffered an onslaught at the hands of 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstasearlier in the innings, sent down a back-of-length delivery to Head. The left-hander, presuming the ball would pass on, shouldered arms, but watched in horror as it seamed in slightly and crashed onto the off stump.
The dismissal was part of Australia's middle-order collapse – at the time of writing, they had lost three wickets for nine runs.
First duck for Head against India
It's the first time Travis Head was dismissed for a duck against India across all formats. In 31 innings, he averages 45.36 against India, with four centuries and six fifties.
